There’s nothing like being kidnapped and trussed up by a homicidal maniac to ruin a good vacation. Who turns out to be a hot Viking, Yummy.

Piper

While watching the street show, Piper remembered thinking that, like TV shows, the evil bad guys always look like, well, evil, and the hero looks very much like a hero. And he certainly was the hottest hero she could ever remember seeing.

Piper didn't know if it was because of the wedding and her brief moment of feeling sorry for herself, leading to overcompensating, and the large amount of alcohol. Still, he was one of the yummiest lickable guys she had seen in a very long time. Then, someone asked if she would like to be part of the show. The girl who was supposed to be in the show still needed to show up; it was all a little foggy. She thought it would make a nice end to the weekend, especially if she got to ogle the smoking hot Viking guy some more.

Vin

No one knew how it occurred or who caused it—was it Vin's brother or some malicious entity that had been around for centuries? The answer remained a mystery.

The thought of being so quickly taken in filled him with utter betrayal. There still needed to be an answer to how their enemies had pulled it off. He had been sure that he was immune to drugs, having tried them often enough to find no comfort in the darkness they quickly provided for others. The injustice of it all was only compounded by the fact that his newfound mate had managed to vanish completely without a trace, and what made it even worse was not knowing her name, as he had chosen to refer to her as 'Wench' during their time together. How could he have been so foolish and selfish as to avoid facing the real world? He felt like such an idiot.

A series of total F..k ups with a few rage incidents thrown in led to her being able to disappear completely. The minor consideration of a Viking wedding was also something that had to be factored in, adding to the total F… of the century. Females throughout Viking history are allowed the ability to dissolve the marriage or, in the case of his particular modern woman, not even be aware of it; she was able to remove the marriage cuffs and hide her location, something he would have bet billions she would not have been able to do on her own.

He had yet to learn how anybody had discovered their meaning and location. Considering everything that had happened, he felt that the old hags had somehow or another been involved; he supposed he should be grateful, and yet, he was just angry.

He should have anticipated that his mate would be immune to the compulsion; however, to expand upon his total f..k up. She should have slept for a long time as he had commanded. But of course, she had not complied; she had got up, left a note saying she had had a wonderful time, and walked out. A wonderful time. Like he was some f..king one-night stand in Vegas. Vin knew he should not be so insulted or angry, but how dare she?

She was not there by accident; he was sure of that. He was equally sure she had nothing to do with, or probably any knowledge of, his world. But the fact remained that she had treated their night like he was some boy toy or some other equally ridiculous thing. When he eventually got his hands on her, and he had no doubt it would happen, she would find out exactly how unlike a boy toy he was.

The enormous fly in the ointment was that, somehow or another, she had been able to contain the cuffs. Vin had been so sure of his ability to track her that he had not worried about a guard or locking her up. Again, his assumptions had been his downfall in this debacle. After she had left, he could track her to the airport, but then she disappeared. Again, his complete f..k up.

Once he found her, all hell would rain down on anybody who stood in his way. Until then, they would all have to be careful. With how he had been behaving for the last three years, there was no way that everyone did not know who she was to him. Everyone was aware that she was his true mate, which put her in grave danger until they could finish the ritual. They also needed to contain his berserker before he destroyed Vegas and the world.
